Witnessing many historical cross points Famagusta became artificial
shelf of artifacts, some of them still actively participating in serious
transitions towards needs of contemporary sensitivities,
re-examinations, literally being imaginary central structure. It is
still connecting different peripheries, constantly existing as
center-social point, core, focus, mainstream, as well as being hot spot
and playground for confronting ideas that reveals its multilayered inner
structure. In a process of detection of this imaginary “HUB”, today’s
practices of “unboxing” its values can lead us into adventure of how to
repeat/re-read/re-understand/re-focus.
Controversial plug-ins, so evident in the super positioned values of
the past and the present are woven into patterns that surround
Famagusta’s phenomenon today: till tangible values of spaces are not
affecting directly the “users”, still there is a set of intangible
features offering multi layered identifications with different domains.
By “unboxing the HUB”, complexity of today’s perspectives are building
up consistent set of values both referring to tangible and intangible
(problematized with the fact that todays “users” of the HUB are not even
familiar with them in any responsive sense sometimes).
To unbox Famagusta today is not just a matter of proper translation
or simple understanding; it is more about how to perceive, to detect and
locate, to pinpoint the shades of reality. The unpredictable adventure
of applying different practices of this “unboxing” are about to lead us
into exploring the main domain of our intentions: to underline the
possibilities and alter the realities into profound ideas, covering
domains of architecture design, industrial, interior design and up to
urban scale, all touching Famagusta’s inheritance at the level of
multicultural complexity, being able to affect our decisions, to uncover
varieties, to problematize our designs, to uncover varieties of
processes, to undress the outer skin and shine again through creative
responses from its deep, hidden beautiful inner being.

Gazimağusa hala çok yönlü çeperleri birbirine bağlayan ve çok katmanlı
iç yapısıyla çatışan fikirleri açığa çıkaran bir kenttir; önemli bir
noktadır/ HUB’dır. Bu hayali ‘HUB’ın sezinlenmesi sürecinde, günümüz
yaşantısı tarafından böylesi bir merkezin değerlerinin ortaya
çıkarılması bizi yeniden okuma/ anlama/ odaklanma macerasına
sürüklemektedir.
Geçmiş ve günümüzün değerleri halen Gazimağusa fenomenini sarmalayan
örüntülerdir. Öyle ki, kent mekanlarının somut değerleri kullanıcıları
doğrudan etkilemese de çok katmanlı tanımlama sunan bir dizi soyut
özelliğin varlığından söz ettirir.
Bugünün Gazimağusa’sını ortaya koymak doğrudan tercüme veya basit bir
anlayış meselesi değildir; gerçekliğin tonlarını saptamak için nasıl
algılanacağı ve tespit edileceği ile alakalıdır. Mimarlık, iç mimarlık,
endüstri ve üründen kentsel ölçekli tasarıma dek çeşitli alanların
sunduğu olasılıklara dikkat çekerek, Gazimağusa’nın çok kültürlü ve çok
katmanlı mirasına dokunmak; bizi derin, gizli, içsel yaratıcı
yansımalarla dış kabuğu soyup içi yeniden ışığa çıkarmaya
cesaretlendirir.
